Store Cleaner (Fixed Term Contract) at Dis-Chem Pharmacies

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a dedicated and experienced Cleaner on a fixed-term contract for their store in Ottery. The role involves maintaining the cleanliness of the store according to Dis-Chem’s high hygienic standards, including areas such as the shop floor, stock room, dispensary, admin office, and canteen.

Minimum Requirements

• Essential:
  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
  • At least 6 months of cleaning experience.
  • Good command of the English language.
  • Basic customer service skills.
  • Ability to speak an additional area-specific language.
  • Willingness and ability to work retail hours.
• Advantageous:
  • Bilingual (ability to speak more than one language).
  • Previous experience cleaning in a retail environment.

Job Responsibilities

• Daily Cleaning: Ensure a high standard of cleanliness throughout the store, including the shop floor and communal areas, before opening.
• Routine Maintenance: Develop cleaning routines to maintain all areas of the store to a high standard.
• Restrooms and Canteen: Ensure restrooms and canteen areas are clean, tidy, and stocked with necessary supplies at all times.
• On-Demand Cleaning: Be available during operational hours to address spills and messes promptly.
• Correct Use of Products: Use the correct cleaning products and equipment for each task.
• Safety Protocols: Display wet floor signs when cleaning floors to ensure customer and staff safety.
• Customer Interaction: Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor while assisting customers.
• Health and Safety Compliance: Perform all duties according to Health and Safety regulations.

  • Previous cleaning experience.

Special Conditions of Employment

• Must be willing and able to work retail hours.
• Physically fit and able to perform tasks such as walking, standing, climbing, kneeling, bending, and lifting.
• Reliable transport or residence in close proximity to the store.
• Must be a South African citizen.
